Drug Awareness Director Andrew Bolz Since 1983, the Maine Elks Drug Awareness Program has worked to prevent drug use by our youth through education. We recognize that we are not experts in the field of drug education. However, we do have the resources -- in dollars, facilities and volunteers -- to work with the experts to ensure that young people know the facts about drugs.
In the 2007-2008 Fraternal Year, the committee spent $21,000 on 29 programs. We reached 45,753 students, 15,820 parents, teachers, and members of the community. A total of 723 Elks participated in the programs, providing 3061 hours of volunteers service. Also during the year, the Lodges distributed over 100,000 pieces of Elks Drug Awarenes Literature, as well as 6000 pencils, 6000 rulers, 24,000 Red Ribbons, and many other items provided by our association to the local Lodges. The Elks, nationwide, distribute 125 million pieces of literature to students, their teachers and their parents each year. Below, you will find links to these pamphlets on the dangers of Drugs and Alcohol through the Elks National Drug Awareness Resource Center.
