The Elks National Foundation is truly the "Great Heart of Elkdom." This charitable arm of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks provides finanical support for many programs such as:
|
Here in Maine, the Elks National Foundation provides the Maine Elks Association with financial suppport for its programs as well.
During the 2007-2008 Lodge year, the Elks of Maine donated $88,324 to the Elks
National Foundation. This year, the Foundation will give back the following:
- A State Charities Grant of $49,190. The bulk of this grant will go toward our major projects such as the Maine Children's Cancer Program and the Diabetes-Hypertension Van. But portions will be used to fund our Drug Awareness,
"Hoop Shoot" and Soccer Shoot programs as well.
- A Bonus Grant of $14,100
- A Special Projects Grant of $30,460. that is used to enhance our educational programs, as well as other charitable and
philanthropic programs.
- A total of at least $28,000.00 in "Most Valuable Student" scholarships to 7 high
school seniors in Maine. In addition, 4 Legacy scholarships may be awarded for a
total of $16,000.00-to children and grandchildren of Elks who have been members
for at least two years.
- A total of $1,980 to Veteran Service Volunteers through the Elks Veterans Service Commission. These funds will help provide aid and comfort to hospitalized veterans in Maine.
That's a total grant of at least $139,730, which represents a ratio of
$1.58 for every dollar the Foundation received from Maine Elks last year.
Since its inception in 1928 through March 31, 2008, the
Elks National Foundation has granted a total of $2,808,155.00 to our state, compared with
Maine's total donations of $2,470,272.83. That's a ratio of $1.137 for every
dollar the Foundation has received from the Maine Elks.
The Foundation's past support of Maine includes:
- $1,371,307 in State Charities Grants
- $353,732 in Special Projects Grants
- $534,470 in "Most Valuable Student" Scholarships
- $208,014 in Emergency Educational Grants to the children of deceased or
totally disabled Elks
To maintain this level of funding for these important programs requires finanical help from members and Lodges of the Maine Elks Association. To provide an incentive to give to the Elks National Foundation, several levels of giving have been established. These are:
