Maine Elks Motorcycle Riders
The Maine Elks Association Motorcycle Riders (MEMR) is a special interest group of motorcycle enthusiasts, who are also members of the Maine Elks Association. The group holds regular meetings, as well as several events throughout the year, which support the state association and its many charitable programs. MEMR is open to any Maine Elk, who is interested in joining, and supporting the committee's charitable projects. Participants in this special interest group do not have to own or ride a motorcycle to join. If you are a Maine Elk, and are interested in joining this group, contact MEMR Chairman Rodney Bauer at (207) 725-1062. If you would like to join, but are not yet a member of the Elks, click here to learn how to join our fraternal organization. The highlight of the year for this committee is the "Owie Box Run," held each July. Last year, this motorcycle ride has raised more than $117,000 dollars that has been donated to the Maine Children's Cancer Program for their "Owie Box." program. What is the "Owie Box?" It is a program at the MCCP Cancer Program Center in Scarborough, Maine that allows any child who undergoes a painful procedure to take home an item from the box. For younger children, it may be a toy, or for teenagers, it may be an Ipod or other electronic gadget appropriate for their age group. To find out more about this year's program, click here.
