The Internal Revenue Service has announced that under the Tax Code, donations to the Department of Veterans Affairs' General Post Fund for exclusively public purposes are deductible from federal income taxes in the manner and to the extent allowable.  The announcement reflects the tax law provision, which makes those donations deductible as "donations to the United States".  Donations to support any of the Department's programs are deductible, whether the donor directs that the donated funds be used for a specific purpose or allows the Department to decide how the donated funds will be used.  Donated funds made by check should be made out to "VAVS" and sent to the address above.

Elk Training Program

The deadline for the Elks Training Program is coming up soon. To date, the following Lodges have participated by having at least one person complete the test. Those Lodges are:

  • Lewiston
  • Augusta
  • Millinocket
  • Bath
  • Skowhegan-Madison
  • Houlton
  • York

Thats only 7 Lodges out of 22 in the State. For the past several years, the State of Maine has had 100% participation in the program, we would like to see that happen again this year.

Please take the time to participate in this important program. There is much to be learned about the inner workings of our Order. The deadline for the State Association to send in its results will be on March 15, 2010.

All I need is an e-mail from your Lodge indicating the names of those who took the exam. Please send to: Wayne Cotterly as soon as possible. Certificates of completion will be mailed shortly thereafter.
