2010 MEA Convention Schedule 

The agenda for the 2010 MEA State Convention has been posted on the Maine Elks Association Website at:

On Friday during the registration, we will be having a Caribbean theme, so people can wear their Hawaiian shirt, shorts, sandals, we will be having frozen drinks and beer available to purchase at a discounted price,  we will be having a limbo and hula hoop contest to see who is the best. So come early and enjoy the island music!

 

 

Past State President Larry Ross Obituary 

Lawrence 'Larry' Parker Ross, 82, died April 8, 2010, at the Maine Veterans home, Caribou. He was born September 9, 1927, the only child of Arnold P. and Fay (Rhoda) Ross. He was raised by his step-mother, Ruth Ross, who gave him all the love and care any mother could.

 

Larry graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1946 and served with Co. K, 35th Regiment during the U.S. Army's occupation of Japan during World War II. He then worked for 19 years as a salesman for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Co.. covering the entire state of Maine. He purchased North Road Market, Houlton, in 1971 an operated the store until his retirement in 2003. He was a friend to all, whether trveling North or South. Larry was Exalted Ruler of the Houlton Lodge of Elks # 835, 1976-1977; served as President of the Maine Elks Association, 1981-1982; and district deputy, GER in 1987. He was also a member of the Monument Lodge of Masons.

 

Larry was predeceased by his wife, Thelma (Murphy) Ross, in 1999; his son, Dr. James B. Ross, in 2007; and his brother, Russel Ross. He is survived by his grandson, Benjamin J. Ross of Orlando, FL; his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Ross of Weston; his sister, Mary Ryder and her husband, Cecil, of Yarmouth; sister-in-law, Joan Ross of Cape Elizabeth; nephews, Arnold P. Ross and Ross Haskell; and several cousins including Richard L. Rhoda and sister-in-law, Cecilia Rhoda, of Houlton, Lenny Lenentine of New Hampshire, and Van Lenentine of Maryland.

 

At Larry's request, there are to be no calling hours or funeral services. Those who wish may make contributions in remembrance of Larry to Houlton lodge of Elks Scholarship program, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St. Houlton,Maine 04730.

 

 

 

Havey is Sebasticook Citizen of the Year 

The 13-year old grandson of the man who helped found the Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge is the Lodge's Latest Citizen of the Year.

Portland Elks Install New Officers

On April 3, 2010, the Portland Elks Lodge #188 held their annual installation. The following officers were installed:
