Judith Bolduc Named Skowhegan-Madison Mother of the Year

SKOWHEGAN – When Judith Bolduc was asked to attend Sunday’s Mother of the Year ceremony at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge, she thought the occasion was to honor one of her friends and former co-workers. But she was in for a surprise. Only when Past Exalted Ruler Julie A. Washburn announced that the recipient was going to celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary this month Skowhegan did Mrs. Bolduc realize she was the honoree. “She is a very generous lady who I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with for years,” said Washburn. “She is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and taught Sunday school at the Federated Church for many, many years.” Mrs. Bolduc and her husband, David, literally traveled all over the world during his military career. Both of their children, Kathy Lorenz and David Bolduc Jr., were born overseas. They also have six grandchildren. The 2009 Mother of the Year worked for H & R Block for 33 years and owned the Skowhegan franchise for 18 years until she sold the business to Linda Cipriano. “When they asked me to come to the ceremony, I thought they were honoring Linda,” said Mrs. Bolduc with a laugh. “I couldn’t believe it when Julie said it was me. I’m just overjoyed.” Mrs. Bolduc was presented with a dozen red roses, a tiara, sash and engraved vase by 2008 Mother of the Year Deborah Tanner of Skowhegan. The local fraternal organization has hosted a public Mother’s Day ceremony and selecting a Mother of the Year annually since 1977.
