Grand Exalted Ruler Establishes Tornado Relief Fund

Re:

Greensburg, Kansas Emergency Relief Fund

On Friday evening, May 4th, 2007, a massive category F-5 enhanced tornado, with winds estimated at 205 mph, cut a 1.7-mile-wide, 22 mile long path through Greensburg, Kansas, destroying about 95 percent of this farming town of 1,500. The homes and businesses of the small community have been obliterated.

Beginning with the Chicago Fire of 1871 and continuing to the present, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has been there as a beacon of help and hope for the victims of disaster. Once again, the Elks are being called on and must answer the cry for help.

I am asking local Lodges and State Associations for help and support so we might lighten the burden and lend our support to those families who are the victims of this terrible disaster.

I have been asked and have directed the Grand Lodge to establish a relief fund so that we may aid these victims. I encourage each of you to raise and donate whatever you can for this fund so that we may continue to live up to our motto "Elks Care - Elks Share."

Tax deductible contributions should be addressed as follows:

Greensburg, Kansas Emergency Relief Fund
5441 N. Porter Avenue
Wichita, KS 67204-1801

Sincerely and fraternally,

Arthur H. Frost III
Grand Exalted Ruler

ENF Donations

Last year, the Maine Elks Association donated a total of $81,958.66 to the Elks National Foundation, the charitable arm of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, and will receive back a total of $1.539 for every $1.00 donated. A pretty good return for the money donated. Though the State finished in the middle of the pack, at 25th in the nation this past year, it is anticipated that the Maine Elks will work hard this year to put the state back on top.

Below is a table that shows the ENF funding for the Maine Elks Association.

Elks National Foundation Expands MVS Scholarship Program Awards

The Elks National Foundation has expanded the available scholarships by providing higher value scholarships to an additional twelve deserving high school seniors. The total amount to be given out next year will increase to nearly $3 Million in this program. The increase in scholarships available through MVS is partly due to the elimination of the Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship Programs.

Below is a breakdown of the scholarships available.

Millinocket Elks Lodge Honors Mothers on Mother’s Day
By Gerald “Slugger” Barnes, PER

Pictured here are some of the eighty moms that attended Millinocket Lodge #1521 Mother's Day Tea ceremony.  Exalted Ruler Mary Bouchard and the officers of the Millinocket Elks Lodge performed the ceremony as Norm Dubois sang some very nice songs and made it a great time for some super ladies.  The ladies enjoyed a tasty lunch prepared by moms; Jean, Donna, Joyce and Valerie.
