State President Message-June 2010

Roger Normandeau-State President

Dear Members,

On June 6th I had the privilege to attend the Installation of Officers for the Maine State Association of Emblem Clubs in Sanford; Diana Oliver, from Farmington Emblem Club 460 was installed as President. I was invited to say a few words and spoke briefly about the support the Emblem Clubs give to the Elks and thanked them for their efforts.

This month we will honor our flag, each lodge will hold a Flag Day Ceremony which gives a brief history of how it became the 50 stars and 13 stripes and honors our veterans who fought and sacrificed so much under each of those flags. The Maine Elks will conduct this ceremony for our hospitalized veterans at Togus on June 14th.  It will be held in the chapel, there is plenty of room so if you are in the neighborhood stop by and celebrate the history of our flag with our veterans.

June is also the time we remember our fathers. Hopefully, we all will spend some time reflecting about those men, who gave us the foundations to make us the people we are today.

As I was reminded, summer actually arrives this month, as you plan your family events, whether you are traveling or staying home, please keep in mind the safety of your family.  I wish you all a great and enjoyable summer and as my daughter says "Please don't burn the steaks."

Fraternally,

Roger Normandeau
MEA President
