Presque Isle Community Celebration
By Bill Davis, PER, Public Relations Chairman Presque Isle Elks Lodge

The Presque Isle Elks have done it again. After coming off a very successful “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” fishing derby in June, the lodge had their 2nd Annual 4th of July Community Celebration.  The event took place at the Riverside Park. Many activities were happening including a live band, boat rides up the river, Humvee rides, horse and wagon rides, car show, and games for the kids.  Over 1200 hot dogs and burgers were given away as well as gallons of ice cream and more slices of watermelon than can be counted.  This event is the only event that the city of Presque Isle has for the community on the 4th and in just 2 years it has grown tremendously.  Exalted Ruler Linda Allen stated that with the success of these last two events the community can expect an even bigger and better one next year and plans are already in motion.  The lodge had many members give of their time in organizing this event and to them we are very thankful, with special thanks to Mary and Dana Dickinson co-organizers, along with member Alan Harding and nine Past Exalted Rulers.  All chair officers were also among the volunteers.

MCCP & MEA Earn Recognition

The Maine Children’s Cancer Program was recognized with an article in the Elks Convention News at the Grand Lodge Convention in Charlotte, NC. and the Maine Elks Association Booth was judged, and received the highest rank of 5-Stars. At the booth, MEA MCCP Director Don Richard, along with help from other members like Richard & Sandee Welch, worked to promote the State Association, the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, and sell merchandise to raise money for the cancer program. The booth sported a new look this year, as new photographs were displayed showing one child’s experience with cancer. The photographs were of Andrew Cilia, a cancer patient at the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, taken by MEA Public Relations Director Wayne Cotterly. Many may remember Andrew Cilia, as he was one of the special guests to attend the MEA State Convention in South Portland this past May.

MCCP Director Don Richard would like to pass the word that he has new MCCP Ties available for sale. They are $15 each or two for $25.00. Profits from the sale of these ties will go to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. He will have the ties available at the State Convention at the Portland Elks Lodge in August.
