 MEA State President Visits Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge


MEA State President Robert Drisko and First Lady Myra made their official visitation to the Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge on August 9, 2008. The two were welcomed by Exalted Ruler Patti Pearl and her husband Bob and the Officers of the Sebasticook Valley Elks Lodge. The visitation included a barbeque chicken dinner with all the trimmings, along with a karaoke night, where our State President sang a duet with Emblem State President Barbara Guy. The weekend was capped off with MEA State Meetings of the Trustees, General Membership, and the Past State President's Association.

 Skowhegan-Madison Elks, Daughters of Isabella hosting Red Cross Blood Drive

SKOWHEGAN – The Skowhegan-Madison Lodge and the Daughters of Isabella are co-sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Skowhegan Community Center on Friday, Aug. 15 from 12-7 p.m. Since summer is traditionally a slow time of year for donations, the Red Cross needs as many donors as possible. All presenting donors at the Skowhegan drive will receive a limited edition Red Sox t-shirt. For an appointment call 1-800-GIFE LIFE.

Eldon Bean Memorial Golf Tournament
SKOWHEGAN – The Skowhegan-Madison Elk Lodge will host the annual Eldon Bean Memorial Golf Tournament at Lakewood Golf Course in Madison on Saturday, Aug. 23.
The cost is $50 per person for Lakewood members and $60 for non-Lakewood GC members and includes cart rental. All teams must include two Elks Lodge members. Format is a shotgun start at 1 p.m. with meal and awards at the lodge after completion of the tournament. Players have a chance to win a new car provided by Hight Chevrolet with a hole in one on No. 3. Other prizes will be awarded for shots closest to the pin on all par 3s, the straightest drive; and first, second and third-place teams. All proceeds from the tournament will go toward the Skowhegan-Madison Youth Scholarship Fund and the Maine Children’s Cancer Program For more information, call Bruce McCollor (474-3962) Bob Meckley (612-2684) or the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge (474-3111).

5.      Mealtime companions for long term care patients – During lunch and dinner all week

6.      Nuclear Medicine –Office help & procedure buddies

7.      73 Patriot Place/Dialysis – 1 on 1 visitation/reading and talking with patient

 

ONGOING PROGRAM SUPPORT:

The Internal Revenue Service has announced that under the Tax Code, donations to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ General Post Fund for exclusively public purposes are deductible from federal income taxes in the manner and to the extent allowable.  The announcement reflects the tax law provision, which makes those donations deductible as “donations to the United States”.  Donations to support any of the Department’s programs are deductible, whether the donor directs that the donated funds be used for a specific purpose or allows the Department to decide how the donated funds will be used.  Donated funds made by check should be made out to “VAVS” and sent to the address above.

NOT NEEDED AT THIS TIME!  Afghans; Used Stamps; any clothing that is stained or torn; Jigsaw Puzzles; Playing Cards; Hardcover Books; Magazines Over Three Months Old; Disposable Razors; Dental Floss; Soap; After-Shave; Hand Lotion; Writing Tablets; Pens; and Envelopes.  Due to Infection Control policies we are unable to take used walkers, canes, or crutches at this time.


York Elks Lodge Hosts US Airforce Liberty Band

The York Elks Lodge recently hosted the US Air Force Liberty Band at a "Pot Luck" lunch at the Lodge.  This is an annual event at the Lodge.  After lunch the 40 member band jumped on their bus and headed for York Beach for a concert that night.  One of the band members said "We travel throughout New England and this is our favorite stop.  We look forward to the Elks' hospitality and great home cooking!"
