Student of the Month Program
By Ronald T Lamot, GL Youth Activities Committee

As we approach the new school year, every Lodge has the opportunity to award and reinforce the positive attitudes of our good boys, girls and students in schools and communities. Our Grand Lodge Youth Activities Committee has a program that will assist you in recognizing our future leaders, the Teenager/Junior Teenager of the Month/Year and Student/Junior Student of the Month/Year.

Go to your local high and junior high schools and ask them to participate. All they have to do is provide you with the name of a Student/Teenager of the Month and you will do the rest. What is the rest? You provide the school certificates (provided by the Youth Activities Committee) to be awarded to a boy and girl each month.

The Student/Teenager of the Year would be selected from this group at the end of the Lodge or school year. You could have the school award the certificate or you could make the presentation at the Lodge as part of your Lodge Youth Week.
Your State Youth Activities Chairman will provide you with certificates, instructions, posters, etc. In the event he or she doesn't have the material, contact the Area II Member of the GLYAC who will send them to you.

This program not only rewards our youth, but enhances the community image of your Lodge and Elks.

If you have news or information of interest to the members of the Maine Elks Association, please send your articles to Public Relations Director Wayne Cotterly at meapr@fairpoint.net for inclusion in the MEA Calendar, the MEA Website, or future issues of this newsletter.
