Lewiston Elks at New Gloucester Fair

On October 17, 2009, two members of the Lewiston Elks Lodge #371 used the Maine Elks Association's Drug Awareness Trailer to distribute drug awareness information to people attending the New Gloucester Community Fair.

Approximately 200 bags of materials were distributed, which included rulers, coloring books, pencils, bookmarks, and literature on several narcotic and illicit drugs. Red Ribbons were also distributed to fairgoers.

Pictured above are L-R: Lewiston Elks Drug Awareness Chairman Doug Stone, Elroy the Elk (AKA Brandon Angres),  of Limington and Josh Tibbetts of Standish; two teenagers who just happened to attend the fair that day, but were willing to assist the Lodge by working with Elroy the Elk to attract attention to the Lewiston Elks booth.

Also working the event was MEA 1st Vice-President & Public Relations Director who talked with people about the Elks and their other programs. In fact, one person who had attended the fair said that he had joined the Elks a long time ago, but had dropped out. He said that seeing the Elks doing programs like this will inspire him to re-instate his membership.

MCCP Raffle Winner Announced

MEA MCCP Committee Director Donald Richard announced that the winner of this year's MCCP Raffle was Bill Hussey of Peru, Maine, who had purchased his ticket at the Fryeburg Fair. Hussey won a John Deere "Gator" as the raffle prize.

According to Richard, Hussey commented "What am I going to do with it...I didn't expect to win it," when he was told that he had won the raffle. The proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Maine Children's Cancer Program.

Each year, the Maine Elks Association donates as much as $200,000 to $233,000 dollars to the cancer program, which is based in Scarborough.
