Skowhegan-Madison Elks Hold Benefit Dinner
From Mike Lange, Central District Chairman-Public Relations

SKOWHEGAN - More than 100 people jammed the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge on Friday, Nov. 30 for a benefit meal meal for two members who lost their home to a fire on Thanksgiving weekend.

The meal and 50-50 raffle raised nearly $1,200 to assist Exalted Ruler Julie Washburn and Bob Meckley. In addition, two baskets overflowed with household goods for the couple and a third one was filled with treats for Meckley's golden retriever, Mandy, who was rescued from the blaze by Skowhegan firefighters.

Many Elks from the Augusta, Gardiner, Rumford and Farmington lodges attended the function along with dozens of family members and friends. According to District Deputy Roy Bolton, who chaired the event, 12 to 15 Elks members were involved in the meal preparation, ticket sales, serving and clean-up.
A second benefit dinner will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The meal will consist of a beef stew dinner with all the fixings and the cost is $7 per person.

For more information, contact the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge at 474-3111 or elks2531@beeline-online.net

Pictured above at the Nov. 30 benefit at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge to assist Exalted Ruler Julie Washburn and Bob Meckley was a huge success. Pictured (left to right) are Susan Lord, Washburn's sister; Washburn, Meckley; Richard Corson, Washburn's father; and Jen Washburn, the Exalted Ruler's daughter-in-law.

From the Exalted Ruler’s Message in the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Bulletin:

As most of you already know, Bob and I lost our home to a fire recently.  We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their love and support. While it has been a difficult time for us, we are so grateful for the help we have received from our own members and Elks from other lodges. It really proves that “Elks care and Elks share.”

Sanford Elks Pay Tribute to Departed Members

The Sanford Elks remembered fifteen departed members on December 2, 2007, which was Elks Memorial Sunday. The ceremony was held at 1:00 PM with many family members in attendance. Frank Rickers daughter, Francis, was our organist for the ceremony. The Emblem Club along with other members and some officers made up the choir. After the ceremony, family members were given the candles which represented their loved one. The Emblem Club provided a light luncheon after the ceremony. The Sanford Elks would like to send out a warm remembrance to all the Maine Lodges and their departed members this Holiday Season.
