Waterville Elks Donate Blankets to Veterans
From James Robertson, Waterville Elks Lodge

Waterville Elks donate Blankets to Veterans

While on a road trip, Exalted Ruler David Anderson and his wife Sandi found lap blankets (throws), and thought that they would work well for Veterans. They negotiated a deal with the merchant, and purchased 70 blankets. Sandi took the blankets and embroidered with the words "Maine Vet" on them.

On December 15, 2010, the Lodge's Veterans Committee, led by Chairman Al Stedman distributed the blankets to ten Veterans in retirement homes, assisted living centers, and nursing homes throughout the Waterville area. A small token of appreciation for all that our veterans have done for us.

Rockland Elks Deliver Christmas Baskets
From Bill Bachofner, Rockland Elks Lodge

Rockland Elks Donate Food Baskets to Needy

Early in the morning December 18th with a chill in the air and coffee brewing,  the Rockland Lodge of Elks #1008 in concert with the local Salvation Army commenced its annual Christmas basket project.  The Salvation Army chose the 94 families to be gifted by the project.

Dozens of members and their families joined the effort to fill the baskets with: 5 lbs of potatoes, a bag of yellow onions, canned corn or peas, cranberry jelly, coffee, rhubarb, squash, celery hearts, bread, stuffing mix, a frozen turkey, box of candy canes, and a  bag of candy.

The weather cooperated as did all the volunteers resulting in a smooth packing and  delivery of the baskets to these midcoast families.  The Lodge has been packing and delivering Christmas food baskets for families on the midcoast for over 100 years.

Maine Elks E-mail Newsletter Update

The Maine Elks Association e-mail newsletter has surpassed 200 registered recipients, the highest total since beginning its service with Constant Contact in 2008. If you know of anyone who would like to receive timely information from our association, please pass the word by using the link below to forward this e-mail to a friend.

With Christmas this weekend, and New Year's the following weekend, your faithful editor will be taking some time off to spend with his family. This means that there will not be a regularly scheduled e-mail next Thursday. The newsletter will resume on January 6, 2011. If something urgent comes up, special updates will be sent out if needed.

Merry Christmas to all, and have a safe New Year!
