Upcoming Events at Rockland Lodge 1008

 

October 16: Friday Night Supper 5:30 to 7:00.  Your choice of steak or baked stuffed haddock, with salad, potato, vegetables and dessert.   All for only $10 per person.  All Elks and invited guests are welcome to attend.

 

October 25: 1:00 pm to 3:00 children’s Halloween Party.  All kids 10 years and younger are invited.

 

October 27: District Deputy, Andy Bolz, will visit the Rockland Lodge for the Audit and to observe Initiation.  Dinner is at 5:45 and the meeting starts at 7:00.

 

November 15: Turkey Raffle at Rockland Elks starting at 1:00 pm.  Ten baskets with turkey and complete meal and 40 turkeys will be raffled to winning tickets.  Fundraiser for charities.

 

November 21: Augusta Elks will bring their Rock ‘N’ Roll show to the stage at the Rockland Elks Lodge.  The fun filled evening begins with dinner from 5:30 to 6:30.  The live entertainment begins at 7:00.

 

November 22: Last NASCAR race of the 2009 season at Homestead, Florida.  Come join us for a potluck party and games.  Free door prizes! Plenty of food!

 

 

 

Rockland Elks Honored for Decades of Membership; Longest Membership is 73 Years

 

Rockland Elks Lodge #1008, celebrating its 103rd birthday, held a luncheon on July 12, 2009 to

recognize and honor those who have been Elks Lodge members for 45 years or more. The Lodge

was established on February 7, 1906 as a fraternal organization. As a non-profit organization, the

Lodge donates to various charities and awards over $16,000 annually in scholarships. The

membership of the Lodge now totals 741.

Thirteen of the elite group of thirty-two “longevity” members of the Lodge were able to attend

the luncheon. These included John Benson (50 years), Carl Blackington (59 years), Andrew

Coffey (52 years), Charles Crockett (53 years), Douglas Crute (45 years), Donald Drake (50

years), Jim Flanagan, Jr, (48 years), Richard Ilvonen (59 years), Frederick Marchant (54 years),

Kenneth Morang (51 years), Bill Murgita (53 years), John Rapose (62 years) and Raymond

Young (50 years).

 

Longevity members unable to attend were Arthur Alley (54 years), William Blake (73 years),

Hiram Brown (52 years), Charles Cavanaugh (51 years), Howard Edwards (57 years), George

Keating (45 years), Nathan King (50 years), Gilbert Lane (59 years), Paul Moran (57 years),

Merrill Morang (52 years), Wayne Nelson (47 years), William Newman (46 years), Frank Parker

(48 years), Henry Pomeroy (47 years), Philip Robinson (52 years), Robert Till (46 years) and

George Whittier (50 years)

 

The combined years of membership of this loyal group of Elks totals 1, 572 years. William

Blake’s membership is the longest, an amazing 73 years. He served as Exalted Ruler of the

Lodge in 1939. Carl Blackington was Exalted Ruler in 1957 and was also District Deputy in

1962, Jim Flanagan was Exalted Ruler in 1978 and 1981 and George Keating was Exalted Ruler

in 1972. Exalted Ruler is the highest position a member can obtain within the local lodge.

 

The Lodge is pleased to honor these loyal Elks for their many decades of service to the Lodge

and the mid-coast.
