Seafood night coming up July 28

On Wednesday, July 28, the Rumford Elks will be having a seafood night.from 4:30 to 6:30.  Menu will consist of lobster roll, bowl of clam chowder, and large shrimp cocktail. Take-outs are also available.  Sign up at the lodge or call ER Sandee Welch to reserve your meal.  Cost is $15 per person.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the nice weather and I hope you all have an enjoyable summer with family gatherings and cookouts.

First, I'd like to thank everyone that baked for our bake sale: Barb Fitzpatrick, Debi Briggs, Barbara Belanger, Jan Irish, Peggy Briggette, Pat Hopkins, Dee Welch, Billie Koris, Dick Welch, and myself.

Thank you to George Wyman for stepping up and filling in the chair of Esquire.

Flag Day went real well. Thank you to Kirk Thurston for being our guest speaker. Very good job!! Also thanks to Kirk and Marvin Bickford for doing the flag folding ceremony and to Dan Richard for supplying the music and portable mics. Thanks to Boy Scout Troop #580 and Pack #580 with their leaders and parents and Sgt. Jamie Bernard and Officer Lawrence Winson of the Rumford Police Department for presenting the flags. Thanks to officers Peggy Briggette, Ted Hotham, and George Wyman. Also thanks to out fill ins Richie Philbrick and Debi Briggs. Thank you Dick Welch for the delicious lunch and Thank you to my great granddaughter, Samantha McLaughlin, for passing out the flags.

On Saturday, August 21, we will be having a “NASCAR Nite.” More information to follow in the next months newsletter. We are working on the details.

Thank you, Dick Welch, for putting on a Father's Day Breakfast that included breakfast souffle, sausage patties, French toast, beans, muffins, donut balls, fruit, toast, juice, and coffee. Thank you Albert Pomerleau and Richie Philbrick for helping in the kitchen also.

Thank you to Bill Ruff for painting the deck, chairs, and picnic table. They look really nice!!! Also thank you for mowing the side yard. Thanks to David Fitzpatrick for fixing the electrical things around the lodge.

Congratulations to our new Life Members Norm Legere and David Sanborn and also the Reinstatement of Frank Anastasio. Congratulations to our new members Wanda Hamilton and Lynn Mayberry.

Voting on the Life Membership of Maurice Canwell will take place at our next meeting on Tuesday, July 27.

Recipes Needed

The State Maine Children's Cancer Committee is sponsoring a cookbook with all proceeds going to MCCP. If you have any recipe of any kind that you would like to submit, please send them to the lodge attention to Sandee Welch or drop them off at the lodge when you're in. Deadline is September 1st. So Hurry and bring them in so you don't forget!

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July with family and friends!

Our current membership is 310. We have initiated 5 new members and have 2 reinstatement requests. We have 2 more applications in the works. Keep up the proposing of members. Remember to get a picture so others know who they are voting on. We still have 31 members who are in arrears!! Please send in your dues today !! If there is a reason you are not paying, please contact me.

Drug Awareness winners at MEA Convention

Rumford Lodge was very honored to have two young people represent them in the Drug Awareness 4th grade poster contest and 5th grade essay contest. The topic was “I've Got Better Things To Do Than Drugs.” The 4th grade poster contest winners were Vanessa Cote from Meroby Elementary School and Ian Brennick from Holy Savior School. The 5th grade essay contest winner was Abbey Windover from Holy Savior School. Abbey read her essay at the State Convention at Sugarloaf at the beginning of May. Vanessa is the daughter of Richard and Tammy Cote, Ian is the son of Mark and Sara Brennick, and Abbey is the daughter of Jay and Melody Windover.

Project Graduation

A group traveled to Boothbay to attended the Project Graduation for Mountain Valley High School Class of 2010 on June 12th.

Thanks to George Wyman, Albert Pomerleau, Dee Welch, David and Debi Briggs, and Dick and Sandee Welch for donating your time. The senior Class of 2010 really enjoyed winning prizes on the Horse Race and Chug-a-Lug games.
